STORAGE TIPS

Pack Carefully.

Careful packing can save you time, money, and heartache. For best results, pack your belongings in sturdy boxes or containers that can be easily stacked. Heavy items should go on the bottom so they don’t crush lighter objects and are best placed in small boxes for easier lifting. Fragile items should be packed with care and placed in a container labeled “fragile.”

Store Efficiently.

Efficient storing helps you get the most from your storage unit. To make the most of your space, store smaller belongings in large, hollow items like refrigerators, dressers, and bookshelves. You should also aim to completely fill your boxes and containers, but not so much that they risk collapsing or falling over.

Be Safe.

Due to safety concerns, some items simply aren’t suitable for storage. For example, combustible or flammable items like gasoline, kerosene, oil, and fireworks are not allowed in storage units. The same goes for hazardous or toxic chemicals like paint, grease, weed killers, or pesticides. Perishable food and animal products are also prohibited, as they may spoil and attract insects and rodents.

Insure Your Items.

We work hard to keep your items safe and secure, and for extra peace of mind, you may want to insure your items while they’re in storage. Generally speaking, short-term storage insurance covers your belongings in the event of fire, flood, theft, or damage in transit. A short-term storage policy is separate from your personal insurance, and claims filed against your short-term storage insurance should not affect your other policies or premiums.
